How, oh how
do I reason
with unreason
which has deaf ears
and a mind of rock?

What gave it birth
that overpowering strength
which paralyses
as an earthquake's shock?

Trapped as reason fails
I could make no move
no argument could I advance
even if I have all the proof.

Weary, worn-out and exhausted
no words of persuasion
could I find--I'm left stranded
in the lacuna of life's wilderness
while unreason applauses
in triumph and mocks me the helpless
the lonely and pitiable beleaguered.
