there's a poet on the corner
rhyming out my name
knows of my adventures
and the games i play

pretty sure he's been here
all my wanting life
coming up with the what's
jotting down the why's

i know this poet that i see
is the one that is in me
whether or not i show it
asphalt beneath my feet

pounding of the pavement
stepping off the curb
however way i say it
i trip on the rhyming word

to those who care to listen
to those who have the ears
either near or distant
neither here nor there

as i open up my book
life's poetry in rhyme
listen as you take a look
i've been here all my life
