Mistaken ideas that we can love someone
Enough to make them change
Will only cause grief for ourselves
And unending pain

We can only change ourselves
That inside we hide
So listen to those words
Coming unbidden from inside

A quick and spontaneous reaction
Unplanned and unrehearsed
Will tell one what’s inside themselves
And so often will hurt

Let’s take a good look inside ourselves
I’m sure there’s much to do
And I will work on me
While you go work on you
