Blackwater
Only our rivers run free.
No meter on the bridge
at Mallow in Munster.
But what of the cloud
factories in Connaught?
Where west, each wind
is born,
Mischievous Gaelโs with
pots of vapoured broth
Disperse its brew, and
laced with ancient potions
Concoct a drape to cloak
the Saxon Horde.
The River Blackwater runs
through Mallow in County
Cork, Munster, there is also
a Blackwater in Ulster.
