The residue of a past

Lately from the murky part of his being
an unbecoming feeling has been floating upwards
lurking on the surface a misplaced desire.
He tries to shrug away to ignore it an let it sink back
to the murky depth that resides in humanity.
It is the nearness of her when going down the lift
the hand holding when crossing the street that
bother him and goes beyond the descendant relationship.
He dreads he might say something stupid and upset
the equilibrium between them. As it is he accept
the sense of warmth they are just friends driving along
the coast enjoying the vanishing summer.
