Oh sweet twilight death There is no absence of love Not even in the darkest place, A kiss of warfare Did not stop my bride, My beautiful maiden, A haunting symphony Dances on the foul wind This wedding melody Has been twisted so sweetly By the twilight death How can something so wonderful Exist in such destruction? Blossoms of blood, Flowers of gore, Beauty and the beast, It is not a mere fairy tale. Love leaves entrails of fear Hope buries the carcass My lovely bride, Her eyes like starlight Glisten in comparison To the constellations They too dwell in a dark place Light that will never fade Her skin like pearls Pure despite the filth Despite this broken earth Oh sweet twilight death Even in this hour of demise, Love is burning brightly Love cannot decay
This poem was an old assignment I dug up from my writer's craft papers. The assignment was to allow coexistence between the ugly and the beautiful. I can honestly say I didnt know they could coexist until I experimented with many words. It was difficult, but I really enjoyed this challenge. Of course I also believe almost anything can sound beautiful if you add the right words. Beautiful and ugly can live in harmony.
