Sep 2018
only the moon knows
all the secrets i harbor
only she
in all her infinite wisdom knows
my heart is still heavy
with the absence
of you
she feels the sadness
seeping out
in the midnight hours
as my mind
traitorous and finicky
wanders ever so sleepily
back to you.
your rough laugh
your long hair tickling my collarbone
the delight in your eyes
and in your hands
when my lips
ever so gently
met yours
and there is sadness in her gaze
for she knows
that for all the light
she shines down
none can compare to the light
you once held
for me
the light I watched dim
like a candle running down
until one day
it burned out completely
and she shakes her head in sorrow
at the tides that wash my face clean
on far too many nights
remembering days past
when our bright eyes gazed up at her together
when she shone down on our bare bodies
tangled up in her light
silhouetted against
your clean white sheets
as she listened to our late night whispers and
lightly caressed our fingertips
now
i look on alone
and she thinks to herself sadly
that two bodies
basking in her light
were far more beautiful
than one
