It’s been a while, love

It’s been a long road

A long path

Of conversations gone and said

You telling me it’s a simple crush

Telling me that I don’t know you

Telling me that I’ll get over it

It’s not simple

To you, it may be

To me

I’m willing to figure out your past

I’m willing to listen

I’m willing to be there in your future

But

I’m okay with being labeled as nothing to you

Until you realize

That I’m something

That I’m the gold you’ve been mining for

All these years

And when you do

I will have you figured out

A map of your past and present

And you won’t have the excuse to tell me

“It’s just a simple crush, sweetheart.”

Because in the end

You were the one with a simple crush

And you just hadn’t figured me out quite yet

You don’t have a map of my past and present

Because the gold you were looking for

Is in front of your eyes

But it’s off limits

Until you have a map

And I stop saying to you

“It’s just a simple crush, sweetheart”
