Forever Young

I remain forever young because Donnie and the spirit of this time ever lives within

I knew a kid back then he adopted the hair style of the time a duck tale and he wore engineer boots complete with blue jeans and white tee shirt. He had a pretty sister she was fine as cotton candy. The rock songs of that day were created with her in mind. Blond with a pony tail she was the queen of the sock hop. I didn’t know it back then but he had the same cool which Elvis possessed, the easy laugh the charm that put everyone at ease. His tough guy imitation thinly veiled the soft heart of gold that guided his life.
Baseball and stock cars ruled his heart and imagination. As a catcher he didn’t have an equal, stock cars were his passion in stock cars you could continue your love of hot rods indefinitely. He knew more about cars than anyone I ever knew. There was excitement abounding with the development of positive traction, Rack and pinion steering, synchronized gears no more grinding gears.
Youthful days quickly fade its equal to the effect the rain has on the desert quickly no traces are found to the visible eye you have to look at the evidence of continued life to know that it made a difference. It is the secret spring that continues to feed the soul in many dry places that must be endured in adult life.
Marks are made some are faint and silent they remain but speak as stone and the hurried never hear or understand their communication others are loud and frivolous and are just for the moment and are meant to be forgotten. Donnie spoke of many, acted out many others it was my privilege to know him in those carefree days. But life has many paths ours was not intended to last. For a brief summer of youth I walked with one who cast a long shadow even today I still smile at some of our antics.
He moved north I moved west we both found our wives in the north his legacy lives in his children Tara and David they are making a difference in the world that their father left way to early. His natural leadership qualities and ability to get along with people secured him a place in city government. A position that he distinguished himself in. It was his way to make himself available and always be on hand to help people that was the one of the lessons I still have problems in learning. God sends people to you that through their strength you can be complete.
Some people are silent streams others are mighty rivers which one was Donnie it depends on who you ask. The reality gets confusing when processed with the limited mental powers that God saw fit to leave us endowed with. By this truth I know that whatever we say the truth is it is greater and more grand if you could look at the grand scale but it is to mystifying on this plane, we do well to thank God for the facet of his life that shined in splendorous wonder and never stops effecting our hearts. Donnie would have been great at the class reunion.
