i say ‘hit me’ and ‘kiss me’ in the same breath
can’t choose which hurt won
you were a bad idea from the start
you were never much fun
and i know i broke your heart
but there wasn’t much left of it to begin with

tender caress, a kiss all teeth
call it penance
call it vengeance
sweet distress, nothin’ underneath

our ten years out of sight
i’m alright in the sun
when the day’s just begun
i only ever think of you at night

spit hits its mark
hatred’s better in the dark
face turns heel in the dark
more bite than bark

and no matter how i try
a clear lack of vision
a history of indecision
i remember how you look when you cry

now you say i'm guilty
i’ll gladly take the blame
call it fuel for the flame
i hope to god one day consumes me

i said ‘kiss me’ like a dare
knew exactly what i was doin’
i shoulda stayed away
don’t know who i was foolin’
i shoulda waited for sober day
now i say ‘hitmehitmehitme’ like a prayer.
