Lying down with a heart of glass
Loneliness caught up with me at last

In the days, I perform for the millionth time
My most Oscar-worthy portrayal of 'normal'

But when night rolls in and the curtains shut
I escape from their eyes, I am free of their ties

Lying down with a heart of glass
I never know which laugh will be my last

Today though, I saw another pair of eyes
Another heart screamed out about being wild

Come with me, let's go and sit in candle light
The river's ours today, no matter what they say
Come with me, let's drink and try to understand
Our own mystery, holding each other's hand

Lying down with a heart of glass
Can you see through it to where it broke last?

You say fragile is fine under the soft sky
And engrave our friendship on this heart of mine
