That silence comes; I want no more
O Lord! Let that bird sing!
Sat on stoop beside my door
Felt absence pitiable thing
Grieving friend have I become
In absence of fulsome and tender hum

I only hope he still in flight
Not culled before his time
For song symbolic of eternal delight
Magical and sublime
Sweet sparrow magnificent and divine
Does heaven know a song as thine?

I hope he perch in blooming field
Upon a study bough
In nature where fine treasures yield
As God goes with a plough
I bedazzled, as his beauties sing
Adding lustre to the spring

I love that song, that dazzling song
Who’d dare to **** it? **** them now
I heard it riot in the spring
I clap for it and bow
As gay notes fall around us sweet
With joy replete as we heaven meet
