I went to Lancaster looking for the Amish Rimbaud;
the kid who left the farm at sixteen,
trailed by his cradle-love; she doesn't get it,
doesn't know what she's in for;
Eli goes outside of Pennsylvania
to the nearest other place & lands in the ghetto
where his paintings sell in a pop-up storefront gallery
where he meets Vanessa & who takes him to Unknown Town;
Amy never far away w/ & no cellphone loses him
when the bar turns dark & people are walking rainbows
holding knives & overflowing bottles of love;
it snowed that winter & Eli was sick vomiting green,
writing between bouts of violence;
never thinking the mother of another man could ever care;
rejecting his own mind he spent the night w/ crazy Lisa,
the one everyone loved like a kid sister,
who was thrown into the street
by her stepfather;
she repeated her tale to the cops;
Amy found Eli bleeding in the street
feet from the alley door to the rock and roll club;
Vanessa left for New York leaving him enough drugs to get home on,
Lisa dying in the asylum unsung & worried;
Eli never went back to Lancaster,
following Vanessa & looking up a friend of hers,
signed a deal to put his drunken confusion on the market;
Amy however went home to Lancaster & hung herself in the barn,
the poet's name on her purple lips
"If ur confused drink enough to go crazy;
u'll be drunk but u won't be confused anymore."
