The pawns of karma were
Picked off one by one
Day or night, night or day
Under moon or sun
Paying useless debts to
Those they’ve never met
Knight, Queen and King
Will never know a thing
Viewing tragedy’s cost
As someone else’s fault
Casting lies and deeds
Into dark beds of reeds
Wondering why someone died
Or losing the car keys
Hoping that the pain will lessen
As the pawns teach them a lesson:
It all comes back full circle
