Golden Rye
Close your eyes, take a breath.
There's no need to be scared.
cover your ears and shun the death
of the innocence we once shared.
Pretend the raven did not crow.
Pretend that Paul did not deny.
Pretend that highs aren't always low.
Just look to the golden rye.
Tread through the weeds and find a patch
where sunlight bathes earth's skin.
Here your dreams may stay and hatch,
But commandments won't let you sin.
lay down, lady with gleaming hair,
and stay a while in thought.
Just fade away and smell the air.
Forget the purity you once sought.
