Dec 2017
It was the Christmas party.
And everyone was gathered around.
It was time to open the presents.
I was glad I did my job.
Sort of.
See I had gotten someone
The same gift my friend had given me.
Some years back.
And rewrapped it.
I was hoping no one would notice.
And think my gift was generous
When it was basically the gift version of leftovers.

I held my breath.
My co-worker opened the present.
And stared at it in puzzlement.
She said
This person got me… an Ipod classic?
They don’t make those anymore
But it would have to do.
I thought Keep on with the Christmas spirit!
Suddenly she looked kind of mad
Oh no.
She cried out
It still has movies and music on it!
Who would do such a thing!
Well, I would.
Do you know how hard it is to find a box to fit an Ipod Classic?
I had to rummage through my attic.
It was so cold and cramped and dark up there.
Kudos to me for finding the box.
But I had to keep calm.
The gift-giving at the Christmas party was anonymous
So she would never know it was me.
But if I tried to slip out.
Everyone would know the truth.
I was the worst kind of Christmas giver
A regifter
So I just watched to see what would happen.
I Thought it could not get any worse
Boy was I wrong.

She started to read the movies and music on it.
Horrible Bosses, Avengers, X-Men, Star Trek.
Why do you have to put me on blast like that.
I just hoped that she wouldn’t scroll……
Oh no the pictures
I had selfies on it.
I’m doomed.
At least I had a good life.
But she put the IPod back in her purse.
And said that she would clear it
And use it as a backup for her digital media.
I’m safe for now.
I just should not be surprised.
If I get an angry call in the middle of the night soon
I know why.
