Was it the jagged pill
That scratched her throat?
And inspired
The angry lyrics she wrote
Highlighted by
Each and every note
Aimed at getting
Her ex-boyfriend’s goat

Was it the line
About her in a theatre
That reminded him how
He used to eat her
Or more to the point
How he used to treat her
When he has to know
He should have been sweeter

She said to herself,
“I should fight back,
I need to launch,
A frontal attack.”
There’s not one word
That I would retract
Even though I know
We’ve faded to black

She wants him to know
She hopes he’s content
Strange as it may seem
That was her sentiment
Laced with raw anger
Hoping he’d catch the hint
And understand all
That he had meant
