realist
yesterday i flippantly
quipped to a friend
in casual conversation,
"i'm not a nihilist,
i'm just being
realistic."
the weight of those words
sank in today. the prospect
of the grave gave
them new gravitas.
entropy saps our vitality.
eventually, everything ends.
the best we can hope
for is to die before
those we love
leave us.
