When sadness comes
And rolls in waves
That lift
And crash
The spirit
The tears,
The sobs,
The wrenching heart
The soul can
Scarcely bear it

At night
When sleep
Flees away
And thoughts
Sneak upon us
That stab
And wound
The inner man
And sting
When truth
Is clearest

Go through
You must
This vale of tears
And know
This will pass on
The birds
Will sing
And herald in
Another
Glorious dawn
