Little birds
Thy tuneful songs
This city's noise
Has drowned in throngs

Were not we
In harmony
A union
From you to me?

For I cheep
And sing and feast
And lark and lounge
And play in peace

If love is blood
And heart and cell
And the want of love
Is hell

Then we are
A flock together
That bray and bite
At the city's tether
