Old man, patient, steady,
one foot
               then the next.
What the caustic teens call
the "senility shuffle"
because their
boundless, finite energy
cannot conceive
that the gentle grip of death
enfolds his heart,
and he is running
as fast as he can,

breathlessly

once around the block.
Seen at a local greasy spoon:

"Don't criticize the coffee...you may be old and weak yourself someday."
