Gone are the days
When men used to call
With care and respect
Upon a lady
Gone are the days
When ladies behaved
With respect for themselves
Gone are the days
When family was all
And took priority
Over everything
I've watched the world
Change in my lifetime
Into a place
I don't want to be.
I'm tired of being alone
But I fear those I might love
Will this one be
Angry, abusive, addicted or worse?
Will they use me and then leave?
Life is not meant
To live alone
But alone is all I see
Gone are the days
When men loved their wife
And cherished who she was
Built home and life for her
Protected her and kept her safe
Why can't that be me?
