It was the principle
Of the matter

I went down to the gas station
To put air in the tires

Turns out I didn't need any

And the pressure was fine

It was just my imagination

Well, I asked the attendant
To turn the pump on

He asked if it was on yet

I said no and put in a quarter
He told me I didn't need
To put money in the machine

Well, it was the principle
Of the matter

He turned the machine on

And I didn't put the rest
Of the money in
Since he said he would
Turn the machine
On for me

But I was glad
I put twenty five cents in
It was the principle
Of the matter
After all
