They say you ought to fight fire with fire
They say you ought to be a good man
They say you ought to be strong and simple
They say you ought to do what you can
So I ride in stripes of green and white leaves
I ride in stripes of golden brown sands
I see in shades of red and blue lights
I see in shades of ***** amends
They cover their mouths with thin scarves and drag
The speak in weird tongues; we speak with a flag
They hide weapons well, while we reveal none
Unless you consider, at our side, a gun
And a tank, combat boots, a vest and grenades-
Our own little pretty artillery arcade
So we shot a few kids, a few wives, a few cattle
That's the price you pay in a battle
It's a part of our bodies, we do as we're told
It's them or us, no fuss, no time to be bold
So we "breathe easy," hold tight, take aim and fire
We try to forget our at-home desires
We remember our fathers, and those who died well
We remember our wives, and loves we didn't tell
We remember our home, and all we've worked for
We remember our country and all those in war.
It's part of our minds
"Be all you can be."
Shut up, stand down
Get on your knees
Always fight the good fight
Fight fire with fire
Leave all troubles at home
And don't cut the red wire
