Palest orange, a watercolor
wash slips in behind
bared branches
variegated,
rustling leaves.

You slumber,
down in the cellar,
fearless of the spiders
and centipedes.

Awakening me
with your roar
my sleep vanishes,
trading places
with blessed warmth.
