pulled down by those same old fears.
neck deep, regret keeps you there-
just enough air left to breathe and remember.

he never dreams anymore. the thought of sleep
swirling around, brushing against his skin.
the image of a life before this burned upon his eyes.

he whispers as the sky falls dark.
"god, please let me drown."
