coal black raven sits atop the lamppost
perched, regal, with his prize
nestled within his beak
without noticeable movement
the walnut is dropped
crashing to the ground with the force of gravity
pushing all the way
the raven watches intently its decent
upon hitting the pavement below
the bird swoops quickly
gathering the feast before
any squirrel within earshot
develops a plan
beak and talon inspection shows nary a flaw
with minimal wing beats
again atop the lamppost
the raven drops its walnut
this time, slightly more hungry –
