Oct 2011
an explosion
then silence
we ran
to casualty
and waited
and waited
then the ambulances
arrived
a corpse burned
another appeared only sleeping
showered with
pin *****
shrapnel holes
both dead
too ashamed to look my friends
in the eye
the ******* did it for us
they said
This fun run
That no one won
I wrote this many years ago when I was a med student doing in ER in Northern Ireland when the IRA blew up british army soldiers who were taking part in a fun run for a local charity with locals. As a catholic I felt incredibly angry at the IRA and horrendously guilty amongst my protestant friends. Terrible times indeed.
