Little old ladies
are lovely and nice
Giggle and flirt
all that sugar and spice

Seem indestructible
totally unpredictable
Really only come alive
once they reach 85

If the hospital gets nuked,
we'll all be cooked
but the little old ladies
will still be reading their books
I am a geriatrician/gerontologist

how foolish
lust and love
once drove my pen
to rhyme and time
record my
pain and loss
all candyfloss
until I found you

no foolish
lust or love
now drives my pen
i rhyme and time
my childrens' breaths
with yours

Kings cross and so am I
tantrums on the northern line
I pray she won't need another poo
or we will have reached my waterloo

You have
Daddy's lips
Daddy's eyes
Mummy's smile
Mummy's sighs
Daddy's brains
Daddy's wit
Mummy's curls
Mummy's bits
Daddy's love
Mummy's too
But you give us far much more
than we gave to you

I'm glad to say I'm not William Blake
Cuz he's dead you see whilst I am wide awake
The MPS only covers me for medical liability
But perhaps someday I too can join the Dead Poet Society
MPS is the medical protection society

an explosion
then silence
we ran
to casualty
and waited
and waited
then the ambulances
arrived
a corpse burned
another appeared only sleeping
showered with
pin *****
shrapnel holes
both dead
too ashamed to look my friends
in the eye
the ******* did it for us
they said
This fun run
That no one won
I wrote this many years ago when I was a med student doing in ER in Northern Ireland when the IRA blew up british army soldiers who were taking part in a fun run for a local charity with locals. As a catholic I felt incredibly angry at the IRA and horrendously guilty amongst my protestant friends. Terrible times indeed.

to see
to touch
to kiss
to taste
to hold
caress
undress
to have

and when
you go
it's always
too long
to wait
for you
