She was five today
We walked to the park
A low brilliant winter sun
Lit up an evergreen conifer
Like a Christmas tree
The pine cones on
the edges of its branches
on fire briefly like candles
She squealed in delight
Look mommy
The angels have sent me
A Christmas tree
For my birthday.
