the old hotel

The last image fades

Only monsters remain

But they are fake

Only the smarmy boys

With the loot their fathers stole

And the sexed up girls

Without their clothes

:::;

We are so nebulous

So subliminal

So obviously foolish

And so superfluous

//

We write the songs we are afraid will be sung

We touch the girls prematurely

To destroy their love

the image of a child's face

Fades into darkness

As we fade into obscurity

//

We loved so pensively

/

Hence we never truly lived at all
