Jun 2015
a foreign flag hanging overhead.
deaths of many soldiers.
darkness looming on a seemingly sunny day.
freedom—close enough to touch, but not to taste.

closing her eyes,
an old, weary grandmother sighs.

and blows the candles.
it doesn't matter
whether the philippines had their true independence on the fourth of july or not.
it is authentically on the twelfth of june—by which the true passion of the filipinos fought for their freedom, truly and wholeheartedly.

happy 117th birthday, my motherland.

(this was supposed to be happy, what happened.)
