If they knew then
What they know now
Would they have done it anyhow
Or waited and turned back the dial
To think about it for a while
Despite the dead not here today
We don’t know so we can't say
What they would’ve done anyway

If they knew then
What they know now
Would Isis still be allowed
To flourish and attract a crowd
In places where they've gone buck wild
And so imagine if you can
No al-Qaeda or noTaliban
Or troops blown up in desert sand

If they knew then
What they know now
To contemplate it is a wow
‘Cos no one has been brought to trial
Or forced to work on a rock pile
But we can't dream it away
No matter what they have to say
Hope justice will prevail one day

If they knew then
What they know now
Or took the time to read his file
They would have known
It wasn’t his style
To capitulate grovel or bow
And perhaps things would be
Much  different now
