Poems

the friendly face of death

//////////
she walks alone the dark city streets
Amid the cries of ****
The howls of greedy men
The hungry ******
And her own growling angry lust
///
Alone in the rain
She walks an endless night
No love in sight
//
Love ?
She no longer knows just what that means
( She never knew - how can she now ? )
••
Soaking wet
She sits down on a bench and weeps
Beneath a silent sky
And a deadly timelessness
:::
She is tense
She does not really breathe
Alone and wet
In the dark with grief
••
I ' M ALL WET she says
WHAT 'S WRONG WITH ME ?
//
a voice replies IT'S RAINING
• •
She feels a sudden intake of air
A rush of calm
Like a released prayer
A total peace settling in
She looks around
With her own eyes again
///
She thinks
IT'S RAINING !
THE PAIN IS FROM WITHOUT
NOT FROM WITHIN
WHATEVER IT IS / ITS NOT OF ME
IM STILL WHOLE
IM STILL FREE
//
she vows to sit there the whole night
To restore time
To restore light
To regain the morning's peace
To feel again the dawn of grace
//
The water drips down from her face
She opens her mouth and dares to taste
Once again
The joy of life
