Billy walked point,
Jeff and Michael
offered security,
they were the first to go.
Some overzealous
Pakoled button-pusher
couldn't wait
for the rest of us
to catch up.
In the aftermath,
after the dust & chaos settled,
I saw Billy's face lying in crimson.
One of Jeff's desert boots
was turned upright
with his foot still in it.
Everything else
was just bits & pieces
of my buddies.
I never thought
I'd thank God for this...
my salvation.
