Goodness eludes me
I wallow in self-pity
The night closes in
As the sun says goodbye
The tears from my eyes
Hurts no one today
Sometimes I wish
The pain would go away
But it's only a dream
To hope for renewal
Where are the rewards
Of doing the right thing?
It's nothing to expect
Just a lost cause
From a moment's notice
To dying for relief
As this veil of darkness
Ceases to be in me
