shall I not grieve
to miss
your voice
your sight
the glint of mischief
   in a glance
   from half-closed loving eyes
your smile
   that lighted up my life
   more brilliantly than does
the winter sun on snowy slopes
   outside the train
   taking me at this moment
through the landscape of my youth
      and recently of our love
   to places where
      however much I'm looking
      for your face
I know you will not be -

shall I not grieve?
