I'm pleasantly surprised
I'm alone this morning.
Twenty years ago,
A generation or so,
It wasn't so still.
The gift vault doors were shut,
And children were gathering,
Wanting in.
Not selfish,
Curious with anticipation.
I never imagined
I'd be alone
On this morning,
For a few hours.
Soon children with children
Will gather at my door
With anticipation,
Not curiosity.
