I heard Neil deGrasse Tyson say
we are all literally made of stardust
and the next time I saw her I realized
her eyes were galaxies
and she was spitting suns
from her mouth
science has its own poetry
if you know where to look

maybella snow
to be held until you fall asleep
and wake up with them still holding you

to know the noises they make before sleep
and wake to their morning noises

to mumble adoring words until you cant anymore
and wake knowing they're all true

to fall asleep with their scent embracing you
and wake covered in it and still smelling that way after showers

i wonder what that would be like
i wonder why i keep torturing myself with this

“Palm trees do exist”
And like that I’m speechless
Because palm trees are the definition of serenity
And she can’t find that serendipity
because in Idaho we have pine trees
And fathers who are like attics
Attics have ladders to climb so you can reach their expectations
And sometimes his are too high
If I had an attic I would cut every rung to its ladder and build my own
Because I know where I’m going
It might not be as high as you’d like
But let me assure you I’m headed toward palm trees

Last night I danced like my dad
with a girl who resembled a dictionary definition
I read not long back.

Graceful eyes that could
stop traffic with a blink
and engaging lips that
would smile to sooth the pain of
the midday, gotta-get-back-home-now,
commuters whom step
on pedals with haste.

I lied. My dad can’t dance, so last
night I made a fool of myself
in front of a girl who resembled
a dictionary definition I read not
long back.
