Nothing lasts forever or so it seems

In time the sun will burn itself out and cease to bring life as we know it.
Even the very ground upon which we stand is slowly dying.

Why then do we expect so much of the fragile notion that is love?

Why do we hope beyond hope, beyond the wildest possibilities of hope that one day, maybe, just one day, that perfect person will stumble into our lives and want to stay. Forever.

Is it because we refuse to not believe in forever?

Or is it because we are only interested in our own forever? But that makes no sense, why not just say for the rest of our lives?

Because the rest of our lives isn't long enough.

Because the rest of our lives is a mere drop in the ocean of time that we wish to swim in with each other.

But forever is, well, forever.

Forever is beyond death, beyond time, beyond limits of any kind.

Because only in forever can we give enough of ourselves to do justice to what love really should be.

Because love really should last forever, even if nothing else does.

Do something you’re afraid of
[fall]

Like the night I lay my head on your shoulder,
I needed you to stay alive,
I needed you in order to stay alive.
The night we saved each other’s lives.

It was everything,
and your heart kept beating (against my ear)
and the tv talked to itself.
We went to sleep afraid that it was nothing.

Like that night you told me you were in love with me.
It was nowhere special.
It was the couch in your room.
And thats what made it real.

I said nothing back
and the trees tapped against the window
and eyes around the world were closing.
I did not speak, but I kissed you.

Like the night you drove me home
after the world broke our hearts.
It was 1am
We were two, two was one, and one was alone.

I wanted to stop moving
and the floating snow brought silence in through the open windows
and the street lights made moving shadows on your skin.
The earth moved as black pavement rushed beneath us.

Like tonight as the weight of moments that were years is breaking our necks.
I’ll pick up my eyes and look at you
waiting for me in the openness of the street
brighter than a star.

Standing there like an open door
and the wind is blowing through your hair
and when every breath is a leap of faith,
I will never stop falling.
Soul searching
a popular past time
amongst those people here
with a penchant for a rhyme

Mistake making
we do lots of that too
if we didn't have experience
what would we have to share with you

Heart ache
another common thread
Sometimes broken and abused
sometimes ignored and left for dead

Good humour
perhaps a shield, perhaps a sword
sometimes deflecting true emotions
with a deftly wielded word

Compassion
it seems we have it by the score
and we share it with our readers
that's what poetry is for.

her hair was like wild fire
her eyes laced with charcoal. intentions bold.
her legs were dressed in purplepleather
her hands dipped in tar, candied looking in
their
impossible black gloves. she told me
over pink drinks that
she had grown up a lot
since the last time we met
and tears danced their way down
her apple cheeks
and she didnt bother to wipe
them away
burning holes in anything and everything.

i took two steps back.
And they say we are the mad ones. Rebellious in spirit, and reckless in life. We walk with fire beneath our feet, careless about everything. They say our eyes are blindfolded from reality and we live in a dream. Burdened by their words, we find ourselves following their black ties and white lies. We begin to see with their obscured eyes and hear with their clouded ears. But I say to you, do not fall prey to their snaring teeth. They do not make you, create you, or shape you. We are the pearl of mother earth; a beacon of light bestowed on those in the dark. Tumultuous and free, we are creating a world of color in front of us. Hold the torch up high and set fire ablaze to our trail. Make love your religion and insanity your hymn.  Live vicariously through words, poems, music, and the soft whispers of another. Open the books to your lives and begin writing. Do not swallow society’s propaganda or be tamed by their whip.  You are spirited, talented, and wild with passion. They will give you a map with lines and arrows. Unabashedly you will throw it away; your compass lies near your heart and will guide you from here. Nestle all fears in your coven. Fear keeps bad company and chases away your dreams. Capture your dreams and bear them upon your chest. They are the scapegoat from reality. Love as if you never have before, for it is the only thing that holds us together. Without it, we are mere beings living in a structured frame. When you wake, hold each day as its own. We are wise, beautiful, and simply wonderful. Sing a tune, laugh continuously, dance circles around strangers, and kiss a friend.  Be joyous. But most importantly, be mad.
Reeking havoc upon your words,
Snickering, laughing, sneering away,
Making you feel like lowly cattle terds.
This is my goal, my joy for today.

Hope you go now to cry in your bed,
Hope you’re depressed by what you’ve now read.

I mean to hate, I mean to harm
I write with disgust and hatred for you,
Ending in my fingers from my heart through my arm,
Your poems a joke I hope you die too…..

I know that you are feeling
Lost and wandering, disconnected, lonely,
Saddened by the scorn of so much pain,
Neglected and rejected without mercy,
Left beside the road out in the rain.

Never for a single, precious moment,
Have I ever once felt faltered in your love so bold,
You reached down deep and made me a rich token,
You reached down deep and warmed me from the cold.

Now you stand there so heartbroken and crying,
And you feel there’s nowhere else left to hide,
But there’s something you must understand, my darling,
You will always be here by my side.

When everything seems bitter and so tasteless,
And tears fall down your cheeks in salty brine,
Remember in the end, my darling angel,
All will be okay in its sweet time.

Now rest your weary head down on my chest dear,
Hear the music of my beating heart,
When you awake there will be no more tears,
For you and I will never, ever part.
