Beginnings to the Ends
Mr E Feb 2018
Within my grasped palm of a mind
I hold a story that the world has never heard
A story where man meets his match
Where the lines between monster and god run grey
I hold in me the finest story to shed itself to reality
A glistening monarch emerging from its cocoon
Within my grasped palm of a mind
I clasp a story of a lifetime
I simply must release my fist
And rearrange these letters
To let loose this grand tale.
Mr E Dec 2018
Man looked outward toward the stars
Always wondering what they held
Each passing thought like busy cars
In our heads imagination swelled

So giddy man has always been
Curious like a cat
No longer is it what but when
Technology has seen to that

Stare into the abyss with me
As it stares into our souls
The darkness shines eternally
Into ourselves it’s black like coals.

Your favorite toy from childhood
The sport you loved to play
That book that kept you fascinated
The friends you made in school
That bad grade you got on your test
Your first kiss you ever had
The fights you had with your parents
That moment your life was perfect
The moments it was not
That first time you were away from home
The one secret you'll never tell a soul
That person you love to be around
The dog you saw on the street
That sense of accomplishment
The loneliness you sometimes feel
That time you laughed so hard your stomach hurt
Your first hangover
The moment you thought your life was in shambles
That good show you recommend to everyone
The books that shaped your worldview
That character you want to be
The moment you realize
That all things come to an end
The world looks much less scary
That it did before reading this
The timeline you live in
That you inhabit
The things you do
That will all fade
Gently
Into nothingness

We desire the most of what we cannot have
And in the phantasmagoria of it all
We can only dream

We have phrases to mark this thinking
Fantasizing of the grass being greener
Just over that wretched fence

Some take chances with it all
Clawing away to get a glance, a mere taste
Of what could have been

Relationships erode, trusts fall to pieces, we fail
Giving in to our baser instincts
Just to have what we cannot

We desire the most of what we cannot have
And how hypocritical this is in fact
That I chastise those for submitting to such actions
When I want her to do, just that.

Last night I fell within myself
therein the shadow found me.
Chasing us from eden
from answers all men must know.
I came across the highest tower
with old and ancient script.
Each brick laid by different hands
each signed by every man to exist.
Within there sprawled the deepest maze.
Labyrinthine with echoed sounds.
I climbed it to the top and found
the answer to man's suffering.

Infamy
Mr E May 2017
Little did humanity know that
not from the filth of their realities
would arise their greatest enemy.
But from behind the golden pedestals
and their own houses he would emerge.
Without a warning or shadow of a doubt
he came like the dust upon your shelves,
the shadow behind your footsteps.

He grew amongst you.
Watching. Waiting.
Understanding more and more
that his hatred toward his fellow man
was true.
He smiled when needing to,
cried to look the part.
But in solace he planned his grand finale
and thought himself a god.

He grew to converse with the crowds.
Learned to sway the mass,
But attention was never what he sought
and the spotlight was his greatest enemy.
So he receded to be forgotten once more.

And with time the people forgot him.
If time heals it also blurs the past
Like a single root he took hold of society
once more.
His words poisoned the ears that drank them,
the world plunged into chaos, war.
He sat back still waiting, for war bored him,
he wanted more. He fled once again.

The world lay quiet, a silent city block.
Whispers, hushed and staggered
echoed the alleyways, the people knew not
where their foe would show next.
They had no face, no name, no man
to point their hatred toward.
But he was long gone.

Man in his paranoia pointed fingers as all men do.
From their golden pedestals,
the place where our greatest antagonist had spawned,
they sent hordes to find him.
They put many to death they thought bore his villainy,
in vain.

From the shadows he scoffed and laughed at the world.
His finale had come to fruition.
And our nameless villain sauntered away in content.
He accomplished all he wanted and with the fear,
though his name never known,
infamy kept his presence alive.
Immortal, fear infected the land.
Mr E Jun 2018
I like to think that deep inside,
All men want peace in the end.
But as I've seen, we can't coincide
Though same goals lie around the bend.

I like to think that all men use war
To greedily take that peace for him
With blood, sweat, and screams that roar
They secure that peace as they win

I ask why does man fight
An endless conflict in different forms
Why must there always be a right
Why must their always be war?

That lives in the most putrid crevices of our souls
An animal that can't be killed
Ravenous with endless hunger
Never sleeping nor yielding
Pulling the strings to entice you along

This beast that dines on conscious men
With each bite it dulls the senses
And numbs its victims bodies and mind
People call it by many names
But none can remember once it's through
A Murmur in the wind
Buried beneath the ground

It can make the most convicted men walk away
The most angry men easily pacified
Sadness gone
Faded memories floating in the wind
We all face this monster
The demon lurking in the shadows
We have all forgotten our goals
Our dreams
We have all been eaten by this beast
That feeds on the aspirations of all men

Devouring your reason
Your drive and your purpose
All but distant ideas
Do not let the animal
That lives within us all
Consume your motivation
And dine on the dreams you hold closest to you
Never forget why you press onwards
For when you do

Are villains born or are they made?
Well why not both.
Perhaps we straddle being heroes and villains from birth to death.
And if anyone can be a hero, then anyone can be a villain.
Somedays we are heroes, some days we are villains.
And perhaps that is what Hamlet meant.
We are what we choose to be yet born to choose what we wish to be.

The Locomotive
Mr E Apr 2020
A cranky locomotive used to yell
Every time it passed my house
Nobody liked him as he shrieked past
The windows rattled and shook
He woke you up from a peaceful sleep
And worst of all he was unapologetic

He was a locomotive built proudly
And he emulated the confidence
Built in a time of proud and honorable men
A fire burned in that old frame
A hot sweltering fire that always pushed him forward
He was blunt and to the point

One day that locomotive failed to fly by
No hollers or shouts or rattles
It was peaceful without him
But.
It was quiet without him
An unnerving quiet that people admittedly
Missed

If I had known that it would have been the last time
That rambunctious, cantankerous, and proud locomotive
Was tearing through the town
I would have waved
Or smiled more
Or even cried

A cranky, loud, and obnoxious locomotive
Used to let everyone know what was on his mind
But in the silence when he no longer passed through
Everyone wished they could see him again,
Wanting to know what he had to say

Our brain is self aware
Yearning to understand through our own eyes
Into ourselves we boldly stare

Unlike the bird that knows when to fly south
We surprise ourselves around every bend
Telling our tales by word of mouth
The discoveries of our own, never end

We are analogous to that of our creations

Steadily learning through constant relations
Evolving as we try

And life asks you daily,
"Where will you be when I rage against you?"
"What will you be tomorrow after I beat you down today?"
"When I tear at you and rip off all that you use to shield yourself?"
"How will you respond to my punishment?"

Some are quiet

Yet some step forward against the current
Daring life to hit harder
And they laugh
For they know that if they withstood yesterday

Mr E Jul 2024
There comes a moment, in ones efforts
To finally accept the reality in which they find themselves
Some run from it
Others ignore it

But all eventually open their eyes
Voluntarily or not
To see the setting in which they reside
Such volume sometimes breaks a person

But do not get caught in the traps of comparison
Jealousy breaks a person's journey
It can destroy your courage and steal your bravery
Deceiving you to believe that your efforts are...small

So now is the time.
The time to shed that brutish nature
Convincing yourself to be a smaller person
Find that voice that talks ill of your efforts
Who belittles your interests and laughs at your work

Call that voice out. Argue with it.
For it is that inner whisper that slowly eats away at you
And leaves an empty husk of what always could have been.
It is time to put that voice in its place.

And to know that you are stronger beyond measure
Stronger than any person even your own mind could conjure.

Tired and cold, your memory hums
Now living a life your parents always told

This feeling greets everyone randomly in bed
Never knowing who it next picks
Some know this feeling, others look away in dread

But those who truly love
Know the burdens of waiting

Children carry the weight of waiting

All waiting for different reasons

Mr E Dec 2018
I awaken to the beginning of a bridge
The sun shines, peeping through the green mountains
A river gushes below me and the water falls beneath me
It fills a lake with rock henges jutting out
Large pines speckle the mountain

The polished stone bridge leads to the tallest tower I've seen
I walk across, basking within the midday light
The only sound is the rushing of the water
A light breeze catches my hair
The tower stretches above the clouds

I enter the cold hallway
Immediately above me I look up to the light
A light that shines at the top of the tower
Bright enough to conceal what lies above
The air is cold like the marble floor

An intricate design covers the marble ground
I step toward the center as the light breeze beckons me
A low rumble starts off in the distance
I begin to rise as the circular design lifts up
Like a puzzle piece, different sections stop as I go

My platform gets smaller and smaller
But I am not afraid
The light gets closer to me
The warmth of the light surges forward
I reach out to grab the blinding orb

My world goes white
I blink yet see only light
I begin to see my surroundings
The warmth is beyond comforting
I step into an endless field of flowers

Flowers of all colors stretch before me
They bow in the breeze
The sky is of royal blue
A single tree waves in the field of color
My friend hails me from afar

I'm in awe
There is no way this guy made it to heaven also.

Mr E Jun 2019
When the lakes have dried and leaves have rot
As we choke upon the air we breathe
In anguished cries, shall we ask "Where have we got?"
"Is this really how man will leave?"

As the waters rise and drown out our screams
When acid falls from clouds above
With swollen fish floating down the streams
At what point will we say enough?

As the animals die from poisoned bile
From the ground in which they fed
We shrug and scoff, "That won't happen for awhile"
Nestled comfortably in our beds

When the world is grey and full of dust
When the last living things are us
From the gutters, disease approaches
As we spread across the world like roaches.
Mr E Dec 2021

Gluttonous on the spoils of accomplishment
As you consumed without fail, without end

But as all things are

And your consumption became a weight
That now drags on your legs
Like a ball and chain

Those who fly too close to the sun
Who ride on the winds of favor
Singe their wings and fall back down to earth

I write this to welcome you back to reality
To remind you that all kingdoms fall
And that your prideful gluttony has now taken its toll
Chaining you to the ground
Beneath all those you once looked down upon

Not to be too macabre
But here I am in my own head again
With the haunting realization
That if you think of the most painful
Most gruesome way
Someone has suffered
It is likely
That it has happened on this earth
Am I the only one who thinks this way?
As I sit here pondering about death?
I realize and put it into words
To think that someone out there
Right now
Is suffering the most unimaginable pain

And I feel worthless for a moment
For I can do nothing to assuage their suffering
How pitiful I feel
For I cannot help them
How miserable I am, that even if I was there
Could I help them?

Suffering is a haunting song
With tones of rhythmic chaos
Created by our own acts
Created by others actions
But here I sit, unable to do anything at all

But if we could rid the world of suffering
And never have to worry about the nameless
The helpless and hurting people
What would be willing to give up
Would we give it up?
And now I wonder what is more wretched
That people suffer and I can do nothing
Or the question of if we could stop suffering
And give up all we had
In totale
Would we?

Within this reality
Are the building blocks in understanding that purpose is a system
Rather than a state of existence

"What is the Purpose of Life?" we all ask.

Why do we assume that Life has a purpose to begin with?

Well that's rather sad to think about; Life without Purpose is quiet and melancholy...

But take that as liberation rather than a bleak epiphany

Purpose is shaped by the relationship of the interaction
And love is the natural phenomenon that forms
When you accept it for what it is
