It started with a cough
A sneeze
Heavy chest
Runny nose and weary bones
Aching muscles and sore throat
Until it bled and the body slowed
A pain that throbbed within your head
Where it oozed and seeped through patchy skin
The doctors rushing, nurses swift
A cord in arm and sleepy drift
Beeping notes and flashing lights
For soon the day came from the night
And as sun did rise, there came the cries
Of a world infected with the germ
As bodys heaved and limbs did squirm
And as it spread, the stench rose high
From city streets to countryside
Sirens wailed and systems failed
And disease took refuge-
In all who walked-
As blood spewed forth
From cluttered throats
Bodies filled the dug out moats
Without avail
From poor to rich the germ had no care
As man grasped to decaying hair
Birds fell from the sunny skies
Trees no longer, in full bloom
And the world stood still
For as life dies
Silence is only left to stay
There was no cure
No antidote
No compromise
No chance
And man died off without word
Without a sound to echo time
We died the same way as we slept
Silent
