There was a girl
I used to swap paperbacks
and spit with, once
I fixed her wiper blades,
I remember the soft dead wings
on the windshield,  pretty
as you please

She was alone in her shoes
listening to something
that kept getting darker
and glowing like morning
on the oil spilled under her truck,
she was drifting through
the rosewater of her soft red hair

She only wanted to be rolling
off a swollen river, sliding
out of a clean slip, turning
over in a deep sleep, trailing
a shimmering thread, hiding
under a pile of wet leaves

Then there she was sailing
in her river of blood,  going
white and smelling like smoke
from a struck match behind
closed blinds on a ceramic floor,
a white blouse red as a sharp knife
collecting the light of mourning.
Return to a pretense

As a dog wanders streets at night

Brighter lights this time

Counting our steps in the soil

Listening on a hospital bed

I float awareness

Relaxed

Silence

Saved

The rest is missing as your breath fills the room

It cannot be this way

What is left is tainted but remains

For example our embodied love

To see without malice

I move forward in strength

You can smell me on this dark morning

Clarifying this pain was real
I still fathom your demise

The roads are begging of return

You leave your house because of the weather

We speak of promises

I won't be much longer

Georgia and its quietness

Defining ruin the best way possible

Here lies the only answer you expect

Of silence

The pain and I

Bring your own home
I was never seen alive

An endless floor sans you

We enter emotion and hide our breathing

There is freedom here

Machines pierce seasons

Soaking core

Wishing I had closed my eyes

Forced poison

I should have known

Infinite midnight

When you start to scream it goes unnoticed
My body will break

Then the world will die alone

Maybe my lips will speak truthfully

Yours show pain from last year

That's why he thinks he loves you

I can feel the sadness grow tight

Lay in bed and beg for answers that only I can give

My garden grows

And you fall further, unaware

— The End —
