Dimmest light

Eternity is dark

Fleeting spark of stars

Simplicity of small lives

Snuffed inevitably-

Dark

anyhow
that was the day I gave up everything

one thousand hotel mirrors
well travelled.

train Milan, cheek-kissed Maria.

cognac. A man. Unconsumed.

Guylove dance, marketplace Castries.
Lord Jackson, Victor
Calypso kinging.

Anyhow
that was the day I gave up dancing

Jack lighthouse, broken glass,
spilled Guinness never forgiven.
Named my son for him.

Anyhow
that was the day I gave up talking

crew cut Poughkeepsie, émigré fashion
boarding cockle boat, Dunkirking
Queen Mary.
Nero sunsetting on piddling empire
wallmap fading red to wilted pink

scouring the bottom of titanic bucket,
glorious lido summer, dear Liza,
got a hole in it(torn piece of rubber
mnemonic for a mother)

anyhow
that was the day I gave up ***

now come the restoration of the king.

London shall rise again,
borne on tide of flying,
infinite darkness,
osmosis of light.

whisper saint Paulus,
de-clocked, unthroning,
myriad swimmers swarm
canal cut channel,
(furry animals cluster, cuddle
in unlikely couplings).

quavering timbers
blowing and swaying,
queen lay dying, long live the king.

anyhow
that was the day I gave up my mind

Injurious to health

buds in relief

over sloping roof.

now magpies,
fluttering to rest,
white and black,

never believed in
perspective,
history nor
evolution,

the game of birds
coupling,
pigeon dances
I had seen, yet
still
without belief.

on my man-couch,
reclining,

am I at last so
wrong? about
everything?

tomorrow I burst

then we shall see
order or
chaos.

will this doubt become
flower
fruit

Sleeping little girl
face of never been kissed

Waking sleepy eyes cloudy
with dew lips stretching
to smile

Rutting face flushed
contorted pleasure
good big bad girl

Morning face open as sun

Working face furrowed
in concentration

Evening face made to
melt in painted splendour

Myriad facets of one
beloved face haloed
by tumbling hair
and massing gravitational
pull on one helpless man

Broke cover
Sudden
Stood stock still-
Breath, mist
Mingle

What thought, doe,
What sound, smell of
Greencoat man with
Lichen brow,
Moss beard,
Hazelnut eyes,
Moist as yours,
So brown.

Veins throb
Yours and mine
Silken hide
Only movement
Ears, nose twitch.

No pointed barb today,
No loud report

Just look
Slow as oak
Bark growing fingers
Grain of the trunk.

No haunch for butcher hook, today,
Doe
Disappear into
New forest thicket-

Oh, how you gentle me

Where this arrow
all untamed
should land

Bury me there
in the greenwood

Or burn me on
the mighty river

Or give me to birds
or sea creatures
too fabulous to mention

Where this arrow falls
leave me there untended
time and flying arrow
spent

A damaged deer
Cowers in shrubbery

Camouflaged against
The curious.

Eyes moist
Nose twitching

Heart thumping
Fit to burst.

Little doe, how
Did you get here

Lost, like us all,
In suburb?

When you walk
do your peach halves
smooth together moistly?

You are a beautiful girl
but you don't walk too well,
tripping over men
time and time and time again,
and when you stumbled over me
and when you came agin
again

Was it not just
the joy of a peach
returned to sun?

And I will hold you in
this fractured heart
until the stars,
tired of light,
fizzle and scatter
ash to time and space
eternal

What can we do

When it goes into

Mike Adam Oct 2016
Above which flower
Do you sleep
With vibrant color
Flavoring your dreams

Beneath what fibrous
Root do you rot
Dank earth mouthing
Funereal dirge

Within which flower
Do you reside
Aroma calls me
To your side?

Sturdy yellow petal
Or blushing wilted pink

Beside you would
I stay with buttercupp'd kiss

Fog
Cobbles wet
air thick

Feeling the weeping

Warm fug of
