Moonshadow
Surrounded
by a multitude of
stars
moon never turns her
face
away from earth
ashamed
of her
dark side

Autumn Diaries
Gold
leaves
rustle
underfoot,
dropped
from parched
trees that can't
hold their stories
any

Cruel Flowers
exploded
and polluted the wailing air
their color
and fragrance
destroyed my pure despair

I was
judged

drained

The Steps

those eyes
of yours?
I'm
trapped there
even by your

I sat down to work

kissed me.
Then we
danced!

Poetry / Sunburn
Writing poetry is like peeling off sunburned skin:
you tease off the biggest patch you can find
yeah, there! where the itch drove you out of your mind
then next where the skin gets thinner, and clings
what comes off starts shredding, and won't say a thing.
You peel what you can and scrub off the rest
(the thinner the skinner the obscurer it gets)
your poem is what's still burned into your chest

Things You Want
The things you want
aren't always
what you get
you have gotten things
you can't forget
but I will make you
a giant bet
that your best things
haven't come just yet

Karma is like 69:
what you give is what you get.
Karma doesn't distract as much
---at least it hasn't yet.

The Way We...
The way waves whisper
the way the sand answers
the way that we
make love
What will
our children do in the morning?
Will they wake with their hearts wanting to fly,
the way wings
should?

Will they have dreamed the needed flights and gathered
the strength from the planets that all men and women need
to balance the wonderful charms of
the earth

so that her power and beauty does not make us forget our own?

I know all about the ways of the heart-- how it wants to be alive.

Love so needs to love
that it will endure almost anything, even abuse,
just to flicker for a moment.  But the sky's mouth is kind,
its song will never hurt you, for I
sing those words.

What will our children do in the morning
if they do not see us
fly?
This poem was written by Rumi, a Sufi mystic. This translation is from
"Love Poems from God," edited by Daniel Ladinsky, a Penguin Compass book.  I hope God doesn't sue me!

I believe
I believe in Jesus now
I believe in Jesus now
I'll tell you why
I shout out loud
that I believe,
I do believe
in Jesus now

For I have seen His holy face
I have received
his wondrous grace
All my sins He has erased
I believe,
yes I believe
in Jesus now

My Savior looked me in the eye
His love and power told me why
every knee to Him will bow
I believe,
yes I believe
in Jesus now!
Hear the good gospel music? Sing along, and even better: believe!
