Lust is not Love

I wrote a poem about you
that I didn't want to keep
so I wrote it by the ocean
in the sand beneath my feet

I sat there by it silently
listening to the waves
just watching the tide come in
at the end of this pensive day

As the sea gently rolled in
and washed away the words
salty tears began to fall
as the ocean took away the hurt

I will never share with you
the words written in the sand
I'll never kiss those lips I long to
or feel the gentle caress of your hands

I remain seated here alone
the poem just a memory in my mind
a pain still lingers within my heart
a mixture of loss and longing combined

One day I'll retrace the words again
in the glorious golden sand
maybe you'll see them this time
and just maybe you'll understand
This came from a conversation about my fear of being stranded without pen and paper.   It went a completely different way, but I followed my heart

What will I do when I run out of words to express my love for you?

Will I be consumed by my sorrow if it has nowhere to go?
Will my heart stop whispering your name
Will I stop imagining your weight in place of others
Will my torment end

Will other lovers haunt my dreams
Will I give myself freely to them
Will I love unbound and bright as fire
Will my heart sing of joy

Or will I disappear
curling like black smoke into the ether
silent ruin my comfort
cold longing my grave.

While you, my sweetest muse
my beautiful love
go on, unaware, unmoved
by the diminishing of my light.

A funny thing happened to me today. I walked out of my office and found a crumpled and torn yellow piece of construction paper blowing around the parking lot. I picked it up to throw it away when I noticed it had writing on it. What I found in pencil made me smile. Someone (a girl I assume) had written a poem on this piece of paper to the person she is in love with. And I thought, how weird is that...someone like me who thinks himself a poet would find a handwritten poem floating around the parking lot. So I decided I would share it with all of you here today.

With the sun shining so bright in the sky
I sit here with you in my mind
Wondering how I got so lucky to have you in my life
I just know someday I will be your wife
Not a day goes by I can’t thank you enough
For all that you do even when things get rough
You’re my world, my angel, my strength when I am weak
Without you baby, I feel so incomplete
From our walks to our talks and everything in between
*I can’t tell you enough what you mean to me
I have no idea who wrote this and I am in no way trying to gain attention from it, I just thought it would be fun to share with my friends at HP.
