This is the shortest poem I have written.
I like short poems.

Clerihew: Steven Wright
Larry Ladd May 2017
Steven Wright ,
Even a poem could write.
Would it not be just fine
Should he rhyme both ends of each line.
Notice that both couplets end in the expected aabb. Also note that the first words of each line rhyme a'a' b'b'. Isn't that interesting. I try to have fun writing these little things.

Clerihew: Rough Riders?
Larry Ladd May 2017
Teddy's Rough Riders at San Juan
Did not have their horses to ride upon.
They ran when they charged the enemy gunners.
So why aren't they called Teddy's Rough Runners?
*Clerihew: a four line poem (rhyming aabb) which names a celebrity in the first line and usually conclude with a surprisngly humorous or scandalous  barb. Meter may vary as the poet chooses

Taps Plus One
Larry Ladd Jun 2017
The sun  came up this morning .
You may not have noticed.
Breakfast was finished.
You may not remember.
Your clothes seem to match.
You wonder who picked them out.
Weather doesn't bother you.
You are not going out.
You feel neither hot nor cold.
You feel numb.
Numb and betrayed.
Giving into the betrayed feeling can only lead to anger.
You were on track.
But life took your friend, your lover, your husband.
A chapter ended.
Abruptly
Finally
Today should have stayed
(a little longer)
You were betrayed.
Anger will come.
NO!
Put out the "No Deliveries" sign.
Numb is safe.
Numb is comfortable.
Tonight the stars will come out.
You may not notice.

William Harley and the brothers Davidson
Built their motorcycles just for fun.
They never knew their bikes would urge us
To drink cold beer in the town of Sturgis.

Dr. Benjamin Spock,
The nineteen sixties baby Doc,
Taught us parenting crafts,
Like keeping children out of drafts

You fellas, Harley and Davidson
Pull your chaps and jackets on.
V-twin Thunder may be your passion.
But you also dictate leather fashion.

I Think
Larry Ladd May 2017
I think
Mason Williams wrote,
"Dylan Thomas has come and gone,
Come and gone, come and gone.
Dylan Thomas has come and gone;
His blood turned to words."

Rod McKuen wrote,
"I try to be a good beatnik,
But it's hard."

The Gospel writer John wrote,
"In the beginning was the Word,
And the Word was with God
And the Word was God."

Maybe we are a Word
Returning to the Word
And
Whatever we try to be good at
In the meantime is going to be hard.

But I could be wrong.

Clerihew: Lot.
Larry Ladd Jun 2017
Thought Lot,
A guy should be happy with what he's got.
That his wife looked back is not his fault...
Besides, a guy can always use a little salt.

Wilbur and Orville Wright,
Two men for a one man flight.
This fact should not be overlooked
Man's first flight was overbooked .

Alphanumeric Anatomies
Larry Ladd Jun 2017
By Larry Ladd

Oh, I would have a lot of fun
If I were a number 1.
Still, I eat that second hero.
My profile is a number 0.
I cinch my belt to hide my weight.
I only look like a number 8.
At “Attention!” I straighten my spine.
I only manage a number 9.
They say “At ease.” I’m in a fix.
My **** drops down to a number 6.
Oh, I would have a lot of fun
If I were a number 1.

My ego wants to be a capital I,
But I guess I’m not that sort of guy.
My gut droops over my belt, you see,
So I look more like a capital P.
Say, I would not mind a capital R.
Then I could be an adult film star.
But that’s not likely, what’s to do?
**** I look like a capital Q.
So I’ll stay dressed because I know
I really am a capital O.

prayer takes many forms
Larry Ladd Jun 2017
knee unbent
standing toeeot with god
words
like tiny fists
pound
against his chest
GOD, **** YOU!
melted by love
(fills between space)
goddamnyou
muffled by grace
(fills cracks in faith)
echoes into silence

prayer takes many forms

This is not a Clerihew, Haiku, or any other  poetic form I have encountered before. The alliteration, the.glaring pun, a rythm pattern that barely had a chance to develop.

Running slo-mo in skimpy suits of crimson
Got their viewers' attention and then some.
