The baby can't stop crying
As she places it in the box
She finds a dumpster to throw it in
As she walks along the docks

There was nothing else, she could do
A mother, at only fifteen
She hurries away as fast as she can
As she hears her baby scream

A runaway, she's all alone
An addict, for years on crack
Her baby left alone to die
But still, she won't turn back

Thrown away, like a piece of trash
A baby, without a name
An innocent child abandoned
By a mother who bears no blame

Another victim of circumstance
Shamelessly, cast aside
With no one there to hear it's cries
The abandoned baby died

This color is yet to get a name
Though most have seen its hues
For some this color is not yet known
For they've yet to pay their dues

There are no words to help describe
This color we carry inside
It's never seen the light of day
In darkness, it chooses to hide

Though many have tried to define it
None can comprehend
You need the light to see the colors
But the light cannot decend

Empty spaces and hollow dreams
Encompass its outer core
Shadows of what used to be
Block the only door

This color though it has no words
Will tear your world apart
A color that has no name
Is the color of a broken heart

You want me to say I love you
But I can only say I care
You want me to tell you all of my dreams
But I tell you, I don't dare

You ask me to hold you closer
But this is as close as I can get
You ask me to show you affection
But I'm just not ready yet

You need me to make you happy
But I don't know I can
You need me to say I need you
But I'm not that kind of man

You love me the way you're supposed to
But it's love I can't return
You love me unconditional
But it's love I'll never learn

The reason, I've hidden inside my heart
But I guess maybe most of all
No one ever steps into love
And I'm too afraid to fall

There's Dasher and Dancer
Then Prancer and *****
Comet and Cupid
Then Donner and Blitzen

If you think these are reindeer
Then you would be wrong
And it's not crazy words
In some Christmassy song

See, they are my brothers
Don't anybody laugh
For these are hillbilly names
From Polecat Path

It's a place in the hills
In East Tennesee
On the top of a mountain
As high as can be

Here, Christmas is different
There's no reindeer or sleigh
We use an old covered wagon
It works better that way

We make toys in the smoke house
For most of the year
While smoking our hams
'Til Christmas is near

Then we load up the wagon
With granny on the reins
Her wooden teeth all gummy
With rootbeer stains

Now the wagon is pulled
By my brothers and I
We're plumb tuckered out
'Cause people can't fly

Well, you get the picture
About Christmas in the hills
It's a hillbilly adventure
On wagon wheels

Now there's much more to tell
But it's time to run off
'Cause we're loading the wagon
Your friend, Rudolph

A hundred and fifty days have passed
Since I've seen your smiling face
I've looked this whole world over
I can't find you any place

A hundred and fifty prayers I've prayed
That's one for every day
But I'm still waiting for an answer
Sometimes it works that way

A hundred and fifty sleepless nights
Waiting to tuck you in
I have at least a million questions
Wondering where you've been

A hundred and fifty apologies
That's what I owe to you
I don't know what I was thinking
Lord what will I do?

A hundred and fifty lonely steps
From the mailbox to our door
I didn't know a stranger was there
Or what he had in store

A hundred a fifty days have gone
Since we laid you in the ground
We buried the picture you loved the most
Your body was never found

Alone in the dark I wait for the light
To show me where I belong
I can't find my way until it is day
But the darkness is lasting so long

The things that I see in the darkness
Shadows are tempting the light
But there's nothing to fear for I'm used to it hear
And your day will still be my night

Born in this world of silent screams
I can't even see my own tears
Try to understand I see with my hand
The darkness has held me for years

I wish someone would turn on the light
And let me taste what it's like to be free
But for now I am found in this world made of sound
Hoping that one day I'll see

Alone in the dark I wait for the light
Just a glimpse I'm praying to find
But I'm trapped in this hell with touch, sound and smell
For that's what it's like to be blind

The stars reflect her beauty
While competing for her smile
Each one thinks her love is their's
While filled with blind denial

She continues to entice them
As each one feels her stare
Her love belongs to all of them
But none will choose to share

A falling star is nothing more
Than a star with a broken heart
Crippled by her rejection
It will suddenly fall apart

Whenever you see a twinkling star
It's just the Lover's dance
Dying for her attention
In its quest to find romance

The Dippers, both big and small
Were formed to quench her thirst
They stand in line to honor her
As they battle to be the first

The Northern Star takes precedence
As he points which way to go
His countenance is blinding
As he absorbs her radiant glow

So, don't forget to watch the stars
And smile each time they swoon
For now you know this love story
Between the stars and moon

Time is a lot like distance
When a memory is concerned
The older we get the further we are
From the things that we once learned

One more day is another mile
From the way that we were taught
The priceless time when we grew up
A memory that can't be bought

The day we finished high school
We thought that we were grown
One more mile and another day
As we set out on our own

Then the day that we got married
We would walk a few more miles
Another day and further away
As we faced out troubles and trials

Time is a lot like distance
Every second that we roam
It slips away a little each day
'Til were a million miles from home

Aimless without direction
My heart cries out with sorrow
My hopes and dreams all vanished
No promises of tomorrow

Left with only a memory
That can never fade away
Abandoned without discretion
As I live from day to day

The future holds no meaning
As I count each day the same
My loving arms now empty
Without a love to claim

I dare not look for reason
But the bitterness fills my soul
A pain without consolement
That none should ever know

Left with only pictures
That beckon for my smile
Frozen moments in time
That harbor my denial

Silence fills the air I breathe
Not wanting to exhale
My soul now filled with echos
In a lost and empty shell

I struggle each day to survive
As my heart becomes defiled
A loss without redemption
For one who's lost a child

A mother stands watching
As He grows into a Man
Not knowing His Path
Or even His Plan

She's proud of her Son
For He stands for good
Helping His neighbors
Just like He should

Preaching and teaching
All thru this land
Doing the things
His Father Commands

She couldn't have known
His Days would be short
Or His Journey would end
In Pilate's high court

Forsaken, forgotten
On Calvary's Hill
Only He alone
Could do God's Will

A mother stands watching
As He's Crucified
A mother stands watching
As her Little Boy Died

Today I found an angel's wing
Just lying on the ground
As I held the feathers in my hand
I couldn't even utter a sound

I wondered if she had fallen
Or maybe been hit by a plane
I had to go ask my mama
I knew my mama could explain

As I ran into the kitchen
I couldn't find her anywhere
She wasn't on the front porch swing
Sometimes I'd find her there

When I stepped into the backyard
I saw mama on the ground
I ran to my neighbors as fast as I could
And told them where mama was found

The neighbors called the ambulance
They said mama had gone to Heaven
Daddy came home as fast as he could
To his sons just six and seven

Daddy tried his best to explain to us
Why sometimes that people die
He said she's in a better place
And that it's okay to cry

Mama took us to church on Sundays
And she was always the first to sing
But I knew Jesus needed my mama that day
To help the angel with the broken wing

Visions of the past
Devour my very soul
Hopes and dreams, now void
Forever, takes it's toll

Memories that were cherished
Fade away like mist
Promises of the future
Forever, now dismissed

Another broken smile
Takes it's rightful place
With tears of your rejection
That's streaming down my face

Forever, now entombed
With misery and pain
Reminders of what could have been
Never to be obtained

Imprisioned by my sorrow
Haunted by my past
A love that wasn't meant to be
Was destined not to last

Love is not a thing we feel
It's a place where hearts can grow
An unseen land where dreams are born
And travel to and fro

A place where heartbeats beat the same
Where memories can be made
A place to dance beneath the stars
With no music being played

Where hugs and kisses stand in line
And taught to wait their turn
A place where tears are cast aside
And hearts are taught to yearn

Where honesty lives and learns to thrive
A place we practice trust
Where battles are fought and won each day
Against that thing called lust

Love is a place where lovers go
A land where commitment is free
A special place where hearts can grow
A place we long to be
Larry B May 2010
Hidden beneath the breath of time
Are things that remain unseen
It's a place neither here nor there
For it's simply in between

Hollow stares, with eyes of pain
Is the evidence that they can see
A place, without understanding
And it will not set us free

It captures all our hopes and dreams
It's like they don't exist
Who we were and who we are
Has simply been dismissed

Our loved ones left alone to ponder
About a place they cannot go
They try to help us mend our wounds
But the scars just will not show

Depression is a such lonely place
It hides inside our mind
It steals the joy that we once knew
Where peace is hard to find

It swallows up our tomorrows
As it leaves an empty soul
We're left alone to suffer
In a place where you can't go

What does it feel like to race the wind?
Or to dance in the warm spring rain?
How did it feel the first time you smiled?
Or you wake on your sheets, with a stain?

How did it feel the first time you cried?
The tears streaming down your face
Or the first time you lost at anything,
As you hung your head in disgrace?

How did it feel the first time you lied?
Or the first time you told the truth
How did it feel to sleep in the dark?
Or to pull your very first tooth

How did it feel to get your first kiss,
And wonder why your palms were sweaty?
How did it feel when a loved one died,
Somehow before you were ready?

How did it feel when you found heartache?
With your heart so broken and torn
This is just life, so take it or leave it
But it's how a poem is born
Larry B Mar 2010
The pen meets the paper
And it's love at first sight
For apart they are nothing
But together they will write

A marriage of necessity
For their need is just too great
Joined together in marital bliss
Their purpose is to create

Inspiration is their maid of honor
Creativity, their best man
The writer is the minister
And the chapel, the writer's hand

The words are the flowers
For the paper, to adorn
And as the pen meets paper
That's when a poem is born
Larry B Nov 2010
A maker of clocks shares a secret
That only a few can know
For he alone decides your fate
With a clock that steals your soul

This village of twenty thousand
Gets smaller everyday
For when the clock strikes midnight
Someone will pass away

A deal was made with the devil himself
For a clock that was made of gold
And all who dared to live there
Would simply never grow old

The clock maker was the oldest soul
That the village had ever known
The people would pay for the clock maker's sins
With their souls they must atone

The devil had promised a soul for a soul
So the clock maker is two hundred and eight
But the rest of the village don't live to see forty
For the clock maker decides their fate

At a quarter 'til midnight, a name is drawn
From a box that's shrouded in black
The angel of death leads them away
Never to bring them back

The next time you see the clock maker
Be sure to ask him  his age
But if he smiles as the clock strikes twelve
Prepare to pay him his wage

Okay, It's time to write a serious poem
Enough of that funny stuff
I can write one without the humor
It's doesn't look that tough

Let me see now, where do I begin?
The rain in spain falls mainly in the plain
Ok, this may be harder than I thought
And it could even be somewhat a pain

I know I can do it though, wait and see
This poem's not finished yet
I mean, it's only just words right?
How much harder can it get

Okay, now I think I got it
Just wait til you see my next line
It's coming don't get impatient
You just gotta give me some time

Alright now, I think I'm ready
Maybe a poem about romance
To be or not to be, no that's not it
Wait!, don't leave, give me another chance

Maybe I'll write about heartbreak
"Frankly Scarlett, I don't give a ****"
Alright, I give up, I would love to write this stuff
But I guess I never can

I guess my life's been chosen for me
I'm just on a different path
You can write the serious stuff
And I'll just make people laugh

The very breath I breathe each day
Is imprisoned by your name
A captive of my heart's desire
With only your beauty to blame

I dare not close my eyes to sleep
For I'm haunted by your smile
Like the serpent in the Garden
Your purpose is to beguile

Even your shadow takes my breath
And causes my heart to stare
Forgetting to beat as you pass by
From the moment it sees you there

The flowers look on with envy
Knowing they can't compete
The magical smell of your perfume
Makes the flowers incomplete

Your name has held a thousand lips
Your beauty, a thousand smiles
At least a thousand broken hearts
Now, a thousand and one denials
Larry B May 2011
A thousand kings of old, honor your name
Through prophecy handed down through the age
While blessing the hour in which you came
To make the world and hearts of men your stage

A revelation of beauty and grace
Foretell the legend that you shall become
As men cast eyes upon your lovely face
Thanking the Heavens, where you've fallen from

A thousand love songs will tell of your eyes
And radiant smile that brightens the night
Polished perfection, a diamond, a prize
That rivals the sun for the morning light

A vision of beauty that's been foretold
And honored by a thousand kings of old

I have to tell a story
About the one I love most
She's always soft and warm
And such a gracious host

She patiently awaits me
Each day when I get home
She never lets me down
And I never feel alone

She's never once complained
When I get in a foul mood
She never yells or screams
When I spill a plate of food

We never ever argue
And I always get my way
She even gives massages
And I need them everyday

We always sit together
As we're watching our tv
The remote control is mine
What we watch is up to me

She doesn't mind the football games
We watch them every sunday
And she'll always be there waiting
For the game to start on monday

I just wanted to tell you
I'll love her til the end
For there's nothing like my recliner
She's truly man's best friend

Leaves, Autumn's snowflakes
Yellow and red paint the ground
Trees are trimmed in gold
Pushed by the whispering winds
Sharing their hidden treasure

The frost bites the earth
Sending a chill to it's core
The smell of Autumn
Drowning the flower's perfume
The flowers bow in envy

Gardens stand empty
Gleaned under the harvest moon
With paintbrush in hand
Autumn becomes the artist
Painting nature's masterpiece

I learned to write poetry
From those bathroom walls
I even learned about life
From them ***** old stalls

I think one was even written
By Mr Edgar Allan Poe
Wait!, that might have said
David Allan Coe

One poem that I found
Was scribbled in red
Of course I can't really repeat
What that poem said

Some were so funny
They made me laugh real hard
I laughed til I cried
And my lungs were scarred

Here I sit so broken hearted
Was a poem that we made famous
But we never signed our names
In case they ever tried to blame us

Now some say that bathroom poetry
Just isn't very well known
But you just can't help but read some
While you're sitting on the throne

To *** or not to ***
I haven't made up my mind
But you have to admit, bathroom poetry
Is simply one of a kind
Larry B Nov 2010
The artist tried his very best
To paint your portrait true
But his brush refused to touch the canvas
For nothing, is as beautiful as you

The flowers faint, as you walk by
As they marvel at your radiant smile
All the stars reflect your glow
As the moon is shunned in denial

The poet's pen refuses to write
And his paper has run away
For there's no words, to describe your beauty
And there's simply just nothing to say

Even Shakespeare could not create
A poem, to equal your grace
For if he could, a sonnet would exist
That told of your breathtaking face

The Mona Lisa has lost her smile
When she heard of a beauty so pure
Time itself, has ceased to exist
Captivated, by your enticing lure

The hearts of men will hold your image
For you're truly one of a kind
They'll tell of the treasure that was simply known
As the beauty that was undefined
Larry B Feb 2011
A poem should touch the inner core
Where feelings are only found
A place that you alone can see
Where love and hate abound

A poem is tears before you cry
Or a smile before you feel
A little pain your being craves
Before your heart can heal

A poem is memories cast aside
Before your mind is free
It's often dreams that's left behind
A misplaced destiny

A poem is what you feel inside
That makes you who you are
A poem is written with tears and blood
To mend that endless scar

A poem is felt before the words
And can cause your soul to bleed
A poem is never a state of mind
But a never ending need
Larry B Apr 2011
I know that Heaven's a beautiful place
With plenty of things that I haven't seen
Earth has its beauty, like the stars in space
You are the diamond that's trapped inbetween

The flowers bow down each time you walk by
In the presence of such beauty and grace
The wind will whisper your name with a sigh
While the sun completes the glow on your face

The birds stand in line to sing you a song
As the ocean plays its magical tune
The leaves in the trees will all sing along
As the moon and all the stars start to swoon

Between Heaven and Earth, you're beauty lies
Polished perfection, my diamond, my prize
Larry B Mar 2010
Now, I believe in bigfoot
I've seen it with my own eyes
It was hairy and all hunched over
And it's **** was covered with flies

It had a smell that I can't describe
I even had to hold my nose
That hairy thing scared me so bad
I just stood there and froze

It's face was ugly and covered with hair
I couldn't tell about it's gender
It just stood there staring at me
Like it wanted me to surrender

It opened its mouth and a noise came out
It was trying to communicate
I couldn't understand a word it said
And I wasn't about to wait

I took off running as fast as I could
With that monster right on my tail
I thought I was gonna regurgitate
Remember, I told you, "the smell"?

I almost made it, til my wife made me trip
That's when I started to fall
She said, "Stop it! What are you doing?"
For it was only my mother-in-law
Larry B Dec 2010
Awakened, I marvel at what I see
You were gone in the middle of the night
With you you've taken my heart and soul
And my world became black and white

The roses, no longer a beautiful red
And you've stolen the oceans blue
The grass and trees no longer green
And my purpose has lost its hue

Now everyone I see all look the same
For the darkness is confused with the light
And everyone knows when the sun doesn't shine
The color disappears in the night

The flowers have lost their radiant glow
They no longer take away my breath
They're now adorned in the color of gray
For they all wear the color of death

Red is no longer the color of love
For that word just doesn't exist
Color no longer a word people use
Once loved, but now only dismissed

Without your smile to brighten the world
I no longer have a need for my sight
For I'd rather be blind, in a world without color
Than to see it in black and white
Larry B Oct 2010
You've heard the story of Goldilocks
And the bears that chased her away
But now it's time to tell the truth
'Cause it didn't really happen that way

Goldilocks weighed four hundred pounds
She'd eat anything in sight
And It didn't matter what it was
She still had to have one bite

The whole town knew of her appetite
So they locked their food in storage
And that just left those poor little bears
Who was just trying to cool their porridge

Now she could smell food a mile away
For she had an amazing snout
But she waited to make certain
Those bears had ventured out

She didn't just break one of those chairs
She actually broke all three
Remember, she weighed four hundred pounds,
And was as fat as she could be?

Well, she ate up all their porridge
And anything else she could find
Ofcourse that made her sleepy
With only one thing on her mind

She wandered into the bedroom
And broke each one of their beds
So she curled up on the floor to sleep
With three pillows under her head

While she slept, those bears came home
And they were as hungry as could be
Did I mention she broke the remote control
To the bear's big screen tv?

Anyway, the bears had finally had it
That's all that they could take
In their rage they didn't notice
That goldilocks was now awake

So they trapped her in the corner
And were poised for the attack
But goldilocks was still hungry
And was looking for a snack

Needless to say she ate those bears
I know this story seems crude
But I'm just trying to warn you all
To make sure you hide your food

The rose petals blush
As the thorns protect her smile
And the stem holds her
Larry B Feb 2011
He glued down all of her pictures
And wrote the dates upon the side
In order, when they were taken
Of his lovely, blushing bride

Then he taped the old love letters
He'd written, when they first met
Then sprayed it with her perfume
A smell, he couldn't forget

He pressed a rose inside his book
To remind him of her smile
Then he put in all the valentines
He was able to compile

He taped down both their wedding bands
A promise, he'd planned to keep
He loved her 'til the day she died
This love he carried so deep

As he fumbles through the pages
He thanks the Lord above
On its binding he writes with tear stained eyes
This is our Book of Love

She hides it in the rafters
Above the loft, where she sleeps
Its pages wet, with liquid pain
From all the tears she weeps

It's called the book of secrets
Written with her tears
She tries to hide what's hidden inside
The hurt, she's felt for years

Fragments of a little girl's soul
Taken, against her will
This book is full of silent screams
That time can never heal

"Daddy has a secret,
That he told me not to tell"
She writes at night by candle light
Her verse, of living hell

Written with pain and paper
Memories wrapped with thread
It should have been her diary
But a book of secrets, instead

She hides it in the rafters
Above the loft, where she sleeps
Its pages wet, with liquid pain
From all the tears she weeps

Easter is more than what we see
It's something we can feel
The mighty stone was rolled away
That stood as the borrowed tomb's seal

He's Risen, He's Risen the women cried
For it's just an empty grave
Death is no longer His master
For He is no longer death's Slave

Oh grave, where is thy victory?
And death, where is thy sting?
The Resurrection has taken place
As the Angels began to sing,

"Today is the day Salvation is born
Along with Mercy and Grace
The King of Kings has returned to His Throne
To take His Rightful Place"

So remember, this Sunday as you celebrate
That He has Risen, who died
For it's not just the things that we see
It's what we feel inside

Petals on the rose
Reflect your beauty and grace
Giving them their blush

Kissed by morning dew

I breathe your beauty

Broken

Everytime I think of you
Something starts to break
First, my broken heart
What else will you take?

Next, it was my smile
I don't use it anymore
I've already forgotten
What I need it for

Then you took my breath
The air I need to breathe
It took all the breath I had
To beg you not to leave

You took my very soul
The minute you said goodbye
You even stole my tears
For I no longer cry

Now I fall to pieces
Each time your name is spoken
I'm just an empty shell
Nothing more than Broken

These bugs keep crawling all over my window
No matter what I do they won't go away
And I wish this eclipse would finally be over
And go from the darkness back to the day

Some kind of animal crawled under my house
He smells like he's been dead for a week
My well is empty we really need some rain
My voice so dry, I can hardly even speak

I wish my wife would hurry back home
How long can it take to go to the store?
She needs to vacuum as soon as she can
Just look at this dirt all over our floor

This house is starting to get too small
The walls feel like they're caving in
I'm gonna have to gain weight pretty soon
Cause I'm really starting to look too thin

There's those bugs again they won't go away
And now they're crawling all over my head
In case you haven't figured it out by now
Just read it again, I'm dead

Paralyzing uncertainty
Of things we haven't seen
Shadows of unknown origins
That invade our very dreams

Sometimes, it's the sounds
That go bump in the night
It hijacks our minds
And fills our hearts with fright

Imaginations run wild
As we shiver and we shake
Our voice has betrayed us
Not a sound can we make

Our eyes closed so tightly
As we cover up our heads
In fear of the monsters
That live beneath our beds

Imaginary footsteps
Keep timing with our heart
As their beats intertwine
Like two lovers far apart

The things that's in our closets
Scare our minds the most
It's filled with all our nightmares
Our goblins and our ghosts

The shadows then start fading
As the sun begins to rise
The darkness now is gone
And we open up our eyes

The room is suddenly void
Of nighttime's wicked intrusion
This, that's held us hostage,
Was simply an illusion
Larry B Jun 2010
Here's another story that's also true
Although I hate to admit it
You see, my wife didn't think it was funny
And she just won't let me forget it

I was sitting at the table with my wife and kids
Enjoying our evening meal
I'm tellin you now, I'm lucky to be alive
And wouldn't be if looks could ****

I was almost finished with my desert
When I said, "Hey look, your mom's a Flambe'"
(Caution), never light a match near a woman's head
She didn't tell me she was wearing hair spray

Well, I got a little too close, then up she went
****!!!, flames all over the place
I started beating her on the head as fast as I could
You should have seen that woman's face

The smoke detector singing as loud as it could
Trying to cover my wife's horrible scream
I could have been married to a bald headed woman
At least that's how she makes it seem

I finally got it out, the kids were laughing
But my wife just didn't see the humor
She stared at me til my brain went weak
I seriously thought I had a tumor

I hope everybody was paying attention
To this lesson that I had to learn
Never light a match near a woman's head
And never shout burn baby burn

Today I burned your letters
Filled with all your lies
The smell of broken promises
Even stung my eyes

I tore up all your pictures
And cast them in the flame
I washed my hands a thousand times
To free me of your shame

I tried to burn my memories
But the fire was way too hot
So I'll wait 'til you mean nothing
And be glad that I forgot

I tried to burn your kisses
But my lips couldn't reach the fire
So I found me someone new to love
That fills me with desire

Tomorrow I won't know you
It's her I'm thinking of
You'll no longer matter
Today I'm burning love

Valentine's Day is a thing of the past
This thing called love will never last
I bought you a can of *****
You walked away in a huff
And now I wearing my arm in a cast

You are my need, my understanding
You are the prisoner of my stare
You're my fantasy, my reality
You are my comfort in despair

You are my need, you're my hopes and dreams
You are the very breath I breathe
You're the words in every love song
You're the magic up my sleeve

You are my need, you're my confidant
You are the blessings in my prayers
You're my rose among a world of thorns
You're the diamond my future wears

You are my need, you're my resting place
You are my shelter in the storm
You're the fire in the cold dark nights
You're the ember that keeps me warm

You are my need, my satisfaction
You are the reason that I succeed
You're the love that only comes once
And I am captive to my need

He left His home in paradise
And stepped through the portal of time
He chose to come and pay the price
And die for another's crime

Leaving all He knew behind
His throne was empty and bare
Knowing the only thing He'd find
Was a lowly carpenter's chair

He who made the Heavens and Earth
Had no place to lay His head
He becomes a man through ****** birth
A King without a bed

From a manger to a rugged cross
To set the whole world free
Both Heaven and Earth felt the loss
That day on Calvary

To die for a stranger, a sinners death
Ten thousand angels at His command
Father forgive them still on His breath
A Journey, I'll never understand

The night she was born, her father died
When his car was struck by a train
Trying to get home to his laboring bride
But this news would drive her insane

Her thirteenth birthday, again, she's alone
It was Friday, the thirteenth day
Alzheimer's held her grandmother captive
And her grandfather would pass away

People would whisper she brought bad luck
Cursed by the day she was born
The object of their own superstitions
A victim of prejudical scorn

A rabbit's foot couldn't bring her comfort
For when she held it, things would get worse
The four leaf clover would crumble to dust
And seemed to only strenthen the curse

Nineteen-sixty-three her luck would change
When she met the love of her life
But he was killed on his way to the church that day
Before he could make her his wife

She was destined to spend her life all alone
To keep her loved ones from harm
The day she was born would hold her hostage
And forever be known as Charm

Everything she touched would wither and die
'Til the time she was summoned by death
Ninety years old on Friday the thirteenth
Was the day she drew her last breath

I've chased some rainbows in my day
I've even caught a few
But it couldn't buy me happiness
Or make the world look new

It couldn't make my pain go away
Or even wipe my tears
It didn't offer no comforting words
Or calm my deepest fears

It couldn't show me right from wrong
Or pick me up, when I fall
It's never there when I need a friend
Or hear me when I call

It never made me feel whole inside
Like I do each time I pray
It couldn't light my darkest nights
To help me find my way

The rainbow can keep its *** of gold
And you may consider me odd
But I'm no longer chasing rainbows
For now I'm following God

In the center of every teardrop
Is a city that's seldom seen
It's filled with pain and heartache
And everything in between

The streets are paved with promises
That's broken, from start to finish
The skies are filled with hopelessness
That hope cannot diminnish

Each teardrop holds a memory
That vanishes into air
Forgotten dreams fill the breeze
Like fog in the city square

In the square there stands a fountain
Its waters are filled with lies
Shattered smiles that turns to tears
Each time that someone cries

In the center of every teardrop
Is a city that reappears
Trapped inside a broken heart
That's called The City of Tears

Two little boys
Playing in the field
One broken hearted
The other was killed

Brother against brother
A war beyond reason
To escape this war
Would surely mean treason

The time came to choose
On which side to fight
Not knowing the truth
Or which one was right

A mother stands watching
As her sons choose sides
She shows no evidence
Of the sorrow she hides

The Blue or the Gray
A color was chosen
Blood paints their swords
As time stands frozen

The North or the South
Where do they stand
One brother is slain
By his own brother's hand

Two little boys
Playing in the field
One broken hearted
The other was killed
