Prayer
Kathryn Heim Aug 2016
Clears my mind
cleans my soul
fills my heart
makes me whole
seeks the truth
sets me free
brings me closer
to eternity.

For the ages
Kathryn Heim Sep 2020
In the end it shall
Be revealed
As violence and killings spread
That "no lives mattered" to them.
Bold and ruthlessly declaring
Their cause a fraud.
For the ages.

hold my heart
Kathryn Heim Sep 2019
hold my heart
and i'll
hold yours
as we board
the moonlit cruise.

we'll ride the waves
on the highest sea
our love will flower
in the
moonlit breeze.

and when daylight
touches our souls
we'll maintain
the boat
row by row.

Kathryn Heim Sep 2020
when I run
I'm wild and free
Like the sun, a bird
Flower or tree.

When I run
I'm wild and free
The world and worries
Can't catch me.

and frost of night
that starts the day
and ends the night,
so peace and joy
shall accompany me
forever in eternity.

our love will
dance in the

and when the daylight

we'll maintain our voyage
row by row.

Gray
Kathryn Heim Jan 2020
The gray of day
May be our light
When compared
To the dark of night.

If we pray
For no more gray
Then darkness
Might become our
Day.

final dance
Kathryn Heim Jan 9
when my love
went through heaven's door
and left my tears
upon earth's floor,

i found out then
that all of time
and everything
that's yours and mine,

whether it's by luck or chance
in the end is a brief glance
as glory gets the final dance.

I want my words to live past me
beyond when I cease to be,
of all the things from my past
the truest ones are
my words that last.

I want my prayers
to outlast me,
spoken when I
cease to be,
Remember that
no one can stay,
but our link to heaven
is when we pray.

If no one cried
Kathryn Heim Sep 2020
If no one cried
when someone died
would wars be fought
or true love sought?
would memories
of moments caught
be all for naught
if no one cried?

A thought, a word
A hope that stays
Throughout our lives
And powers our days
A smile, a nod
That makes us feel
Better than what
We thought was real
What turns our souls
To the devil's chagrin
May be the simple
Prayers within
So I will proceed
To pen and be
Prayerful
In my poetry.

Dr King said
Hate is too great a burden to bear
So why must we live in fear
Sorting out lives
Sorting out lies
Witnessing hate
That wears a disguise.

We are called
Kathryn Heim Aug 2020
We are called to love,
Plain as day.

Obvious even if
You do not pray.

All of our thoughts should
Help us portray

The things that our hearts
Should lovingly say.

In the name of love
We should abide,

But our emotions get lost
In the tears we've cried.

The fab four
Kathryn Heim Jun 27
It's a world
Where the musical market
Has been saturated
In songs
By the fab four.

And I, being a super fan
Can't help but saturate it
Even more!

Not only yesterday,
But today and tomorrow,
You shall see.

Let it be.

God said
Kathryn Heim Feb 23
God said to me
wake up and see,
and I replied oh Lord why?
as I sighed.

God already knew
that I was armed
with all my whys and sighs.

In spite of me
and what I was
with doubts and fears
tales and tears
left to question all that's me,
so I will try
amid my why and my sigh
to wake up and see
as God has said to me.

sacred collector
Kathryn Heim Mar 11
if I had a collection
of sacred things,
the concept of those "things"
would not be what
the world brings.

because sacred is holy
and sacred is promised
in hearts and souls,
where what is felt
is what it knows.

my collection would start with love,
the most sacred of all things.

we should all collect sacred things,
it seems.

our main focus
Kathryn Heim Jan 21
our focus is all wrong
in what we say and do
today's news and emphasis
are falsehoods through and through.

the only truth
our safety net
is found in one
we oft forget.

this poet's words
and best attempt
do not reflect
the passion spent.

the only matters
are of the heart
redeemed and loved
from the start.

the world knows not
a soul so deep
enduring all
in silent speech.

a life, a path
a sacred way
to lead us back
when we go astray,

our everything
we must proclaim
is our mighty
God and King.

Today's focus
we must set straight
and by all means
don't wait
all other news
does not compare
this poet pleads with urgency
do not hesitate to share.

we are not defined by color
we are not defined by race
and continuing to do so
only breeds disgrace.

our skin is a mere shell
our  feature's our decor,
when will we all realize
we are made of so much more.

the ignorance of judgement
has no sanity or shame,
while the prejudice in hate
forever fans the flame.

the substance of our goodness
is born within the heart
learning to look inside ourselves
is where we all should start.

Follow the sun
Kathryn Heim Jun 28
I believe

That a rock n roll band
Changed life and times
Through lyrical rhymes.

Love is still all we need
As we go about our days
Surely we can work it out
And find a tune that stays.

Across the universe
Our struggles still seem young
As for me and that rock n roll band
I'll follow the sun.

Tiramisu
Kathryn Heim Jun 21
I have something silly to say
and I am saying it anyway,
I want to tell Tiramisu
"Tiramisu, I love you."

And you may scoff at what I said,
and may not believe what you just read,
but I must confess my words are true
as my love for Tiramisu.

who has a care,
a prayer for you
a prayer for me

who has a prayer,
a prayer for
all

a prayer of thanks
a prayer of praise
a prayer you feel
the need to raise.

the prayer,
it's there
if, and when you have a care.

Take a Sad Song and...
Kathryn Heim Jun 29
The words more precious
Than we knew
Now cast glances
At me and you.

Melodies through out our life
Now define our aging strife.

Endearing tunes we wished upon
Are sometimes far
But never gone.

With each year
That passes by
We'll carry that weight
And sometimes cry.

But every note and every letter
Shows us sad songs
Can make it better.

Words
Kathryn Heim Jul 1
What is your favorite word?
A word that hugs
A word that heals
A word that thinks
A word that feels.

And if your favorite word
Is in a song
Is it so common or so rare
That you would choose
Not to share?

Big or bold
Soft or loud
Will your word
Move a crowd?

Above all words
Above the sky
Above our purpose
That will not die,
Our words should live
And stand alone
Fragile as breath
Yet strong as stone.

Immortal as a shining star
Words showcase
Who we really are.
