and when he is still
he sees himself in her
a fractal born of her design
mirrored in the cold blue clarity
of his quiet eyes
reflected in the wildness
of his sky-bound mind
her crystalline river
flowing through his heartbeat
echoing his love
for her creation

o child of the sun
know you are loved
embraced by the heart of forever
though winter's long night
feels so dark, void of light
your song is heard
and echoes endlessly
like a golden thread
woven into eternal harmony
in the mind of the almighty
and there you are cradled
and sheltered in light
never alone, forever loved

within a starlit valley
a thousand miles away
the omnipotence of distance
broods a lonesome song
an echo of his vacant heartbeat
reverberates without embrace
humbling his lofty thoughts
as he dreams of his wishful place
within a starlit valley
a million miles away

golden locks caress her shoulders
as light upon horizons’ play
softly falls the moonlit night
as stars slip through the veil of day

she speaks in tones of tenderness
as her ashen light fades to grey
filling up his empty cup
with the words he couldn’t say
Sometimes spending some time alone with a golden sunset is the cure for writer's block

withered on aspen branches
hanging like skeletal cocoons
ice-crusted once-yellow dead-greys
and yet
a mountain-strong autumn-bright sun
resurrects fall for a few more days

like eternal lovers
beneath liquid grey skies
rising and falling
water carved and weathered,
the waves of dry earth
giving birth to a mountain
that feels like forever
to a sojourning heart
that reverently prays:

my father, my mother,
my brothers and sisters,
are nothing but earth and sky

the things he was running from
were the very first things he packed
and the things he was running toward
were always distant and obscure
but still he ran and ran
until one day, he didn't
one day he stopped
and he fell stagnant
and he died
a living death

and so he ran again
